The pandemic has brought upon us unprecedented change as well as uncertainty. We have all had to adapt to a new way of life while having to simultaneously manage numerous responsibilities with our jobs, families, kids, and sadly but unfortunately, the death of loved ones.
So, why is there such a high incidence of burnout? Especially now, as we are slowly coming out of the height of the pandemic? How did we get to this phase? Are there different stages that lead to burnout and exhaustion? What type of practices or methods can we implement early on to prevent burnout?
Angelica Churchian, MA, LMFT, a licensed marriage and family therapist at Avedian Counseling Center in Los Angeles, explains how Burnout is best defined as chronic stress that has not been successfully managed. She goes on to explain the 4 stages of burnout and how in its fifth stage, a critical phase known as “Habitual Burnout Phase”, if burnout is not addressed, it will undoubtedly open the door to depression and anxiety.
Angelica stresses the importance of NOT IGNORING the physical, behavioral, and emotional signs of burnout and explains how to identify those signs and address them. This is a discussion you do not want to miss. If it’s not happening to you, it sure is happening to someone around you.
